Tollner Named As Quarterbacks Coach
Ted Tollner has been named as the San Francisco 49ers new quarterbacks coach, head coach Mike Nolan announced on Wednesday. Nolan said this will further channel the team's energies to improve on their offensive tact. The 49ers want to change their low ranking in the league in terms of yards and points.

Nolan said in statement that Tollner will work hand in hand with former St. Louis Rams coach Mike Martz, who was also newly installed as the new offensive coordinator. This is Tollner' comeback to the 49ers, as he used to coach the 49ers quarterbacks from 2002-2005 before he was promoted to offensive coordinator. Tollner's work is also seen to compliment the three-year veteran quarterback Alex Smith, who has been waylaid with a shoulder injury that prematurely ended his season. Tollner will take the helm from offensive coordinator Jim Hostler, who was relieved of his post last year. Tollner led the Detroit Lions under Steve Mariucci in 2005, serving for 11 weeks as offensive coordinator for Mariucci. Tollner finished out that season as the tight ends coach. Tollner began his NFL career as a wide receivers assistant with the Buffalo Bills in 1987. He also served as offensive coordinator of the San Diego Chargers, where he was offensive coordinator in 1988.
