Bryant Johnson signs
Terms were not disclosed, but the Contra-Costa Times reported on Friday that the 49ers and Johnson reached an agreement on a one-year contract.
Despite having never recorded a 100-yard game in five seasons with the Arizona Cardinals, Johnson is an intriguing option since he was buried on the depth chart behind the star-studded wideout tandem of Larry Fitzgerald and Anquan Boldin.
"Bryant is a player that we have been familiar with from our division contests against Arizona," 49ers coach Mike Nolan said.
"He has been very productive when given the opportunity and we are excited to have him as a member of the 49ers."
The 27-year-old Johnson has had at least 40 receptions in his past four seasons, including 46 for 528 yards and two touchdowns in 2007.
Meanwhile the 49ers also signed lineman Qasim Mitchell to a contract, the team announced on Monday.
Terms of the deal were not announced.
Mitchell, 28, who was originally signed as a free agent by Cleveland in 2002, has been out of football for the past two seasons after spending training camp with the Carolina Panthers in 2006 and the Arizona Cardinals in 2007.
The 6-6, 355-pound tackle, who spent his entire first season on injured reserve, signed with Chicago the following season, seeing action in 21 games - 16 starts - over three seasons for the Bears.
