49ERS 26, RAIDERS 21

Thomas Clayton's one-yard touchdown dive with 47 seconds left was the difference, as the San Francisco 49ers won the annual preseason Battle of the Bay, edging the Oakland Raiders, 26-21.
Alex Smith's pass attempt is blocked by the Raiders' Derrick Burgess in the first quarter

Daunte Culpepper may have picked up the edge in the three-man battle for the Raiders starting quarterback position. No. 1 pick JaMarcus Russell is still in the midst of a holdout, and Culpepper looked good vying for the job, completing 6-of-8 passes for 75 yards and two scores.

Lamont Jordan rushed eight times for 67 yards and a score, and for the Raiders. Tight end John Madsen led Raiders receivers with 55 yards on three catches and a score.

Alex Smith also looked sharp, completing 8-of-12 passes for 106 yards and a touchdown, and backup Trent Dilfer threw for 77 yards and a score on 7-of-11 completions. Ashley Lelie hauled in four passes for 57 yards and a score.

Joe Nedney put the Niners on top with two first quarter field goals, a 43- yarder and a 50-yarder, and a 19-yard connection between Smith and Delanie Walker with 3:34 left in the quarter, set up by an Andrew Walter interception, put San Francisco up 13-0.

Jordan dove in from three yards out with 9:35 left in the second quarter to get the Raiders on the board, and Culpepper's 12-yard hookup with Zack Crockett put Oakland on top, 14-13, with 3:04 left in the first half.

Culpepper's second scoring pass, a five-yarder to Madsen, gave the Raiders a 21-13 lead with 6:12 left in the third quarter. Dilfer answered for the Niners, though, finding Lelie on a one-yard score to make it a one-point game.

Clayton's score in the last minute put the Niners on top. San Francisco attempted a two-point conversion for the three-point lead and failed.
